• Format: Submit all artwork in electronic format (digital files).
• Separate Files: Each figure or part of a multi-part figure should be its own file.
• Do Not Embed: Do not insert artwork into the main text document.

• Numbering: Number figures in the order they appear in your text, including the chapter number (e.g., Fig 3.4 for the fourth figure in Chapter 3).
• Citing Figures: Make sure each figure is mentioned in the text (e.g., "See Figure 3.4").
• Captions: Provide a list of captions for each chapter. Include credit if the figure has been published before and explain any new abbreviations used.

• Permissions: If using previously published artwork, get permission and include a copy of these permissions with your final manuscript.
• Credit Lines: Include permission credit lines in the figure captions.

• Organising Files: Group your art files by chapter, as shown below. Also, include a list of the number of figures per chapter.
• PDF Reference: Provide a single PDF file for each chapter that includes all the artwork with visible figure numbers for reference.

Example Folder Structure:

• Naming Files: Avoid using spaces, full points, and underscores in file names (e.g., ‘Fig 1.1a.eps’, ‘Fig 1.1_b.eps’). Stick to a consistent format (e.g., Figure_01.01.eps) to keep files in order.
• File Names: Only use the chapter number and figure number in file names. Do not add chapter titles or extra notes.

File Formats and Resolutions:

• Photographs (Halftones)
  • Digital Camera: jpeg or tif, Minimum 300 dpi
  • Photoshop Scans: tif or eps, Minimum 300 dpi for photographs, 600 dpi for combination photograph and line art
• Line Art
  • Illustrator: eps, ai, 600 dpi
  • Word: doc, docx, n/a
  • Excel: xls, xlsx, n/a
  • PowerPoint: ppt, n/a
  • Photoshop Scans: tif or eps, Minimum 600 dpi
  • ChemDraw: export as cdx file, Minimum 600 dpi
  • Corel Draw: eps, cdr, ai, Minimum 600 dpi

Color Artwork and Mode Usage:

• Color Art: Submit colour art as original files, not embedded in Word or PowerPoint.
• Color Modes:
  • Print: Use CMYK mode for print, RGB mode for online.
  • File Conversion: Files using RGB will be converted to CMYK or greyscale for print.
• Color Depth/Bit Depth:
  • 1-bit = monochrome line drawing
  • 8-bit = greyscale halftone
  • 24-bit = RGB image (colour line drawing or halftone)
  • 32-bit = CMYK image (colour line drawing or halftone)

Vector Graphics in EPS Files:

• Definition: Vector graphics are made up of lines and curves defined by vectors. This allows resizing and colour changes without losing quality.
• Advantages: They are resolution-independent, meaning they can be scaled to any size and printed at any resolution without losing detail or clarity. This makes them ideal for graphics needing sharp lines at various sizes.

Any images or figures which have been obtained from another published source, can only be re-used if you have obtained the appropriate permissions for re-use from the copyright owner.

A statement to confirm this must be included within the figure legend. The original source of the image must be cited, even in cases where the image or figure is not under copyright, or if re-use is allowed under a license which permits unrestricted re-use.
